“Business was brisk at downtown Marion stores on St. Patrick’s Day and a lot of people came to town to enjoy the sales and celebrate with us,” commented George Jackson, Marion Chamber of Commerce president.

Several Girl Scouts were recognized Thursday evening at the Girl Scout father-daughter potluck for having sold more than 100 boxes of cookies. Scouts were Ramona Zeller, Jolene Smith, Jamie Vogel, Brenda Berg, Sherri Winkler, Kelley Enos and Wendy Hett. Zeller was top salesman with 179 boxes. Enos followed with 176.

Five Florence Middle School students will represent Marion USD 408 in the countywide spelling bee March 28 at the elementary school’s multi-purpose room. They are Linda Robinson, Rochelle Mueller, Melissa Krispense, and alternates David Hanson and Jacqueline Hett.

Evelyn (Mrs. Melvin) Strecker, who has been writing news of the Lost Springs community for the Marion County Record for more than 10 years, is featured this week in the continuing series by staff writer Pam Vinduska about the newspaper’s various “country correspondents.”
