The annual dinner-theatre, a community service of the Marion Arts Council, will be an event of Sept. 22 at the city building.

Dinner will be catered by Tollette’s Catering of Hutchinson. Ellen McPheeters will direct the play, “Little Mary Sunshine.”

The Florence Labor Day parade was led by a black Model A, official limousine for King Fred Taylor, 92, and Queen Vickie O’Brien, 85. The royal election was sponsored by the Florentines, a senior citizens group.

William Scully is the subject of a new book, “Landlord William Scully,” by Homer Socolofsky, professor of history at Kansas State University.

Socolofsky, a native of Marion County, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Socolofsky and a 1940 graduate of Marion High School.

Frances Colstrom Dixon is the subject of this week’s Personality Profile. She came to Marion 60 years ago with her husband Claud and both are longtime employees of this newspaper.

Marc Smith won the annual Marion Country Club championship golf tournament over the Labor Day weekend with two 77s for a 36-18-hole score of 154.
