Timothy Newfield received a life sentence for aggravated kidnapping and a 35 year minimum sentence for second degree murder, aggravated robbery, and aggravated burglary Friday morning in Marion County District Court. Judge George F. Scott delivered the sentence to the solemn-faced Newfield.
John F. Wiebe, superintendent of Unified School District 408, is the subject of this week’s Personality Profile. Wiebe didn’t just stumble into the teaching profession. His parents and two brothers have been involved in the teaching profession while his sister is married to a teacher at a private college.
The Marion Warriors varsity basketball ended its regular season in mixed glory, winning the final home game but dropping the season finale to Berean on Friday.
Sophomore Stan Williams may live to be 100, but he will never forget Friday night, Feb. 29, Leap Day. That’s the night Stan nearly defeated the Berean B-team with the help of teammates’ 31 points. Stan himself dished in a record 41 points that night.
Lucille Britain, present Marion City Clerk, who has announced her resignation from that position, has filed by petition on the Democrat ticket for the office of county commissioner.
