An ice storm Monday stalled highway traffic and icy road conditions accounted for over 15 non-injury accidents. Most of the mishaps involved little or no vehicle or property damage. The most hazardous spot in the area seemed to be US-50 two miles west of Peabody.

Tickets for the Marion High School Swing Singers annual Candlelight Christmas Concert go on sale Thursday.

According to Jeff Brewer, vocal music instructor at MHS, four identical performances will be presented.

Soloists include Gina Helmer, Debbie Rittgers, Jan Nuss, Greg Boyle, Brad Seifert, Jon Wiebe, and Brewer. Joan Hiebert accompanies the group.

Seniors on the Warrior basketball squad this season are Aaron Hett, Ty Branson, Nathan Smith, Kevin Jirak, Randy Savage, Danny Sherbert, Greg Boyle, Carl Wolf, and Brad Vannocker.

Births announced in this issue included Pamela Sue Herzet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Herzet of Cedar Point, born Dec. 1; Keith Allen Goentzel, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Goentzel of Salina, Dec. 1; Sara Lynn Cleeton, daughter of Rick and Cathy Cleeton of Russell, Dec. 3; and Sarah Kristine Crofoot, daughter of Jim and Joni Crofoot of Marion, Dec. 5.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reminds motorists that steel studded tires are legal on Kansas highways only between Nov. 15 and April 1. This law includes all non-rubber protrusions attached to the tire, including chains.

Brenda L. Friesen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Friesen of Marion, has accepted a position as secretary with Norris Furniture of Salina. She is a graduate of Marion High School and Brown Mackie College where she majored in business administration and accounting.
