Two Marion County communities, Marion and Hillsboro, received approval this week for additional blue ribbons from the PRIDE program. Marion was approved in the education category and Hillsboro for industrial development.

Representatives from Marion, Herington, and Ramona gave testimony Friday in Salina objecting to a proposed discontinuance of Continental Trailways bus service along US-77 from Wichita to Lincoln, Nebraska. Final determination on the proposed cancellation will be made at a January KCC hearing in Topeka.

About 300 children and their parents chuckled at the antics of their seasonal hero in the film, “Santa Claus and the Three Bears,” presented Thursday night at Marion Municipal Auditorium and sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce.

Six portraits by Jan Davis are now on display in the lobby of the Farmers and Drovers Bank in Marion.

Marion Kiwanians, noted for their singing, were overshadowed by superior quality Monday when Jeff Brewer and his quartet of senior boys put on a noon concert of close harmony. Seniors Greg Boyle, tenor; Brad Seifert, lead; Nathan Smith, baritone; and Jon Wiebe, bass; sang a few short selections commemorating the Christmas season.

David Mueller of Tampa, a member of the Speech Unlimited forensics team at Kansas State Unifersity, won honors at a tournament recently held at Midland Lutheran College, Fremont, Nebraska. He placed first in informative speaking and took second in oratory.
