Members of the Marion Chamber of Commerce will hear a report on St. Luke Hospital and tour the new St. Luke Medical Clinic Friday. Ron Cork, hospital administrator, will be the speaker when the Chamber of Commerce meets at noon Friday in the basement of the City Building. Following his remarks all present will be encouraged to participate in a tour of the recently completed clinic building.

Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer, editor and co-anchors of public television’s “The MacNeil/Lehrer Report,” have been named the 1982 recipients of the William Allen White Foundation Award for Journalistic Merit and will receive their citation Feb. 10 at the University of Kansas.

Jim Lehrer grew up at Wichita and Marion. He attended the Hill School in Marion while his parents operated a bus line in Central Kansas. His book, “We Were Dreamers,” is a descriptive account of his junior high school experiences in Marion. Lehrer visited friends in Marion last spring while in Kansas to broadcast the Messiah Festival from Lindsborg.

Alex H. Case, one of Marion’s most respected and highly regarded businessmen and community leaders, died Friday following an extended illness.

Trailways, Inc. of Wichita has filed an appeal in Sedgwick County asking for reversal of a Kansas Corporation Commission decision that requires it to maintain bus service through Marion and Herington.

Pat Fox, news director of the Marion County Record, was a member of a RECA guided tour group at the Wolf Creek nuclear plant near Burlington on Friday.
