After a well-attended open house, with an estimated 500 persons going through the new St. Luke Medical Clinic Sunday afternoon, the peace and harmony of the event was shattered Tuesday morning when Marion contractor Steve Jost brought heavy equipment to the new clinic and hospital’s parking lot and blocked entrances.

Jost was protesting that he was not paid by general contractor Abbott Construction Co. of Salina, general contractor, for some of his work.

Donna Fruechting was in charge of the line-of-dimes promotion to raise funds for arthritis Saturday. The $113.91 collected was less than had been expected, “but was mighty good when you consider how nasty and cold the day was,” she said.

Jami Shirley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Hayen of Marion, was crowned as Marion High School Football Homecoming Queen for 1981. The annual ceremony was performed at halftime during the Marion-Herington game Friday night. Mickey Costello and Margi Dyck were runners-up in the competition.

John Popp is pictured as he receives congratulations from Marion Postmaster Larry Gultz. Popp, a clerk-carrier for the Marion Post Office, received a superior performance award for exceeding the normal workload with the department. The merit reward includes a pay raise.

Two “hombres” pictured in front of the Marion National Bank brought the thrilling days of yesteryear to downtown Marion Saturday, much to the delight of onlookers.
