The Kansas Water Office has called a public meeting to be held Monday in the Marion City Commission room. Purpose of the hearing will be to provide information about the state water marketing program as it relates to the proposed sale of water from Marion Lake to the city of Marion and to Public Wholesale Water Supply District No. 5.
Alan Bentz and Ed Belton are pictured on the front page as they react to statements by Marion County Commissioners on the maintenance of rural roads. Bentz and Belton were two of 20 people from northern Marion County who lodged protests with the road system at Monday’s County commission meeting in Marion.
Marion High School FFA students won first place as a team Saturday at the South Central Kansas Future Farmers of Americas public speaking contest at El Dorado. Team members are Daniel Bowers, Nancy Swartz, Doug Kjellin, Bret Dannenfelser, and Brenda Ellis.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Huber of Wichita announced this week that they intend to purchase Mid-America Nursing Center of Marion. They also own and operate a nursing home at Wichita and one in Belle Plaine.
Jim Fruechting and Ed Wheeler are pictured as they flipped flapjacks at the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day held Saturday morning at Marion Builders’ Senior Center. The club collected $875 from the event.
Marion Chamber of Commerce will present free movies for children Saturday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. at Marion City Building auditorium. Featured will be “Dicken’s Christmas Carol” and comedies by Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stooges.
