Downtown Marion merchants, armed with shovels, are shown as they clean a path along the sidewalks on Main Street. The city’s emergency snow plan went into effect twice during the past week so city work crews could clear streets before morning.

Vicki Hartley, Kelly Hajek, and Denise Meierhoff are pictured as they had fun in the snow Friday after school was canceled. The trio spent the morning building an ice castle in the parking lot of Dave’s IGA on East Main.

Dr. Joseph Galichia of Wichita, widely known heart specialist, will be the speaker Monday at a joint meeting of the women’s clubs of Marion to be held in the conference room at St. Luke Medical Clinic. Galichia was the first physician in Kansas to perform balloon dilation in the arteries of the heart.

Marion High School students Mickey Costello and Melissa Robinson served as pages in the Kansas Senate Feb. 2. They are pictured in the governor’s office with Sen. Gerald Karr and Gov. John Carlin.

The annual Marion High School Queen of Courts will be crowned Friday night at the varsity match between the Warriors and Centre.

Leslie Burkholder, 1981 queen, will be on hand to hand over her title. She will be escorted by Stan Williams.

Candidates for this year’s honor are Kris Kelsey, who will be escorted by Andy Edwardson; Loreen Wiens, escorted by Tom Schaffer, and Melissa Robinson, who will be escorted by Bryan Hess.

Ella Winter of Marion is all smiles during a halftime performance by her granddaughter, Meggan Silhan, and companion, Ramie Bina. The girls were two of 30 youngsters who participated in a cheerleading demonstration at Friday night’s basketball game at Centre High School.

Students from Marion who are on the scholastic honor roll for the fall semester at Kansas State University include Molly Ferrell Smith, Timothy Mark Holub, Theresa A. Kroupa, and Ronald P. Wineinger.
