Stephan L. McCourt has been named administrator of St. Luke Hospital and Nursing Home. The appointment was announced this week by Robert A. Anderson, president of Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society, Fargo, N.D. McCourt replaces Ron Cork who has been appointed administrator of Logan County Hospital, Sterling, Colo.

Marion Warriors ended the round ball season Tuesday with a 42-60 loss to the Hillsboro Trojans in the sub-state tournament, recording a season record of 5-14.

Hundreds of cars clogged streets in Jex Addition Thursday at the Howard Ford Estate auction. Well over 1,000 people crowded around during the two-day sale of welding and machine tool equipment and supplies in frigid temperatures. Bidders were present from several states.

Lucy Guerra, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Tomas Guerra of Marion, was the winner in the Marion County Spelling Bee held March 3 at Marion Elementary School. Lisa Stika of Ramona, a seventh grader at Centre Junior High took second place. Third place winner was Darin Schrag, a seventh grader at Goessel Junior High School.

Three girls from Marion High School, Joan Hiebert, Beth Regier, and Colene Wiebe, are among the student musicians who will tour with the Tabor College choir in a concert tour of the northwest plains states during the week of March 20-28. The choir is under the direction of Dr. Jonah Kliewer.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett’s home on the Elmer Geis farm three miles northeast of Marion received over $11,000 damage when a fire broke out on the roof the evening of March 1. According to Marion fire chief Junior Bredemeier cause of the blaze was believed to be built-up creosote in the chimney.

Marion County commissioners announced Monday that they have hired Richard L. Teaford of Valley Falls to serve as engineer for the county road and bridge department. Teaford was selected from a field of 20 applicants.
