A jubilant Gerry Harris is pictured as he holds aloft a $75 check for first place. The check was made out to Marion PRIDE and will be used for projects of the organization.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at Lincolnville will celebrate its centennial Sunday, Aug. 14.

Grace Utting of Hillsboro has been hired as Marion County health nurse. She will begin work Aug. 15 in the courthouse.

Phyllis Melton, generally conceded as the final authority on local history, is subject of this week’s Personality Profile.

Couples from across Kansas gather at Marion County Lake three times during the summer for outdoor square dances. The dances, on the fourth Saturdays in June, July and August, are sponsored by Marion City Squares with Bud Pierce as caller.

Kay Blackman and Molly Ferrell made their report Monday at the regular meeting of the Kiwanis Club as delegates to Sunflower Girls State.

Mark Rathert of Marion has accepted a position with internationally known golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. of Palo Alto, California. He and his wife, the former Kathy Kelsey, will leave Saturday for Palo Alto.
