Governor Robert Bennett has announced the appointment of Edwin G. Westerhaus as associate district judge of Marion County, effective immediately. Westerhaus succeeds Magistrate Judge Henry F. Loveless, who retired.

Two Marion County men were seriously injured and one died Tuesday after the crash of a single-engine Beech Bonanza taking off from Hillsboro Airport. The men are Blaine Briggs of Marion, Dennis Klassen of the Canada community, and Paul Rundstrom, Hillsboro insurance executive, who died that afternoon at KU Medical Center.

A 180-foot tower being erected today for Marion cable TV service will capture television signals from the air and transmit them over a coaxial cable to viewers in Marion. Already installed, an earth station or “dish” antenna will capture signals from an orbiting satellite. Both will be used to bring a greater variety of programs to Marion cable subscribers.

A chartered bus has been engaged to take Marion area fans to a baseball game July 9 in Kansas City. Anyone interested should contact Ed Navrat.

Junior Bredemeier, city superintendent, reports that a split found in a water main just west of Steve’s Dairy Palace was enclosed in two sleeves with rubber-lined metal clamps encircling the pipe and that the leak has halted.
