County law enforcement personnel and city, county, and state road crews worked around the clock all weekend to rescue stranded motorists, aid accident victims, and clear roads choked by drifting snow. As an arctic front moved through the county, snow accumulated to more than eight inches at Marion Lake and 10 inches in Lincolnville.

An article by staff writer / photographer Pam Vinduska features Frieda Schlotthauer, who has written news of the North Marion community for the Marion County Record for more than 20 years.

Marion Marble and Granite Works sustained damages estimated by city police to exceed $600 Sunday night or early Monday morning. An unidentified person drove what police think was a late-model Ford pickup through the front wall of the building at 159 W. Main St.

Pictured is Sylvester Winkley of the Spring Branch community, grand prize winner in the annual Marion County Record subscription contest. His new Victor electronic calculator will be helpful in his farming operations. Other winners are Herman Bolte III of Tampa, an attaché case; Howard Groening, Marion, cabinet of personalized stationery; and E.O. Williams of Marion, pen and pencil set.
