Groundhog Mel Honeyfield saw his shadow as Jami Keller escorted contestants in a Groundhog queen competition to a reviewing stand Saturday afternoon.
The five beauties were introduced by Gerry Harris. Contestants were sweat hogs “Dandy Andy” Ferrell, “Legs” Wilson, “Bubbles Plasterer” Loomis, “Goggles” Cork, and “Legal Eagle” Eddie Wheeler.
Wilson won by a whisker. Cork was first runner-up. A crown of pure ground hog was placed on Wilson’s head while spectators applauded.
L. Joyce Clark is subject of this week’s “Personality Profile.” Clark has been working as director of the Marion County department for the elderly for the past four years.
Mike Steinel, native of Marion and acclaimed jazz musician, will be featured artist Tuesday when Marion High School and Marion Community Arts Council cooperate to present a concert at Marion Municipal Auditorium.
A “first dollar of clear profit” was presented this week to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Bruner, owners of Bruner Jewelry and Gift. Presenting the certificate for the Chamber of Commerce were members Pat Nuss and Leland Heidebrecht.
