Directors of Marion County Hospital District No. 1 met Thursday evening with Topeka architect Bob Jones to discuss plans for a new physician clinic adjacent to the hospital.

Two of Marion’s public servants, Ray Vinduska and A.F. “Tommy” Thompson, will close out a combined 67 years of employment with the Postal Service when they retire this month. Also retiring will be Ed Stenzel, who on Friday will complete 33 years with Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.

Produce derby entries this week took a different direction. Marj Nienstedt says she has the smallest tomato in Marion County — or, at least, from the Clear Creek community of Antelope.

Two young women from Marion died in separate highway accidents over the weekend. Joyce May, 29, wife of Stanley May, died Friday night in an accident on US-77 south of the Marion / Butler County Line. A train-truck collision early Sunday morning northeast of Wichita took the life of Sue E. Moore, 24, wife of Patrick Moore.
