George S. Jost, one of Marion County’s most prominent farmers and county commissioner for the past 13 years, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at his farm home north of Hillsboro.

On the bitterest of cold football fields last Friday evening, the Marion Warriors battled the Council Grove Braves to a 32-7 victory. It gave them the CVL league title and closed the season with a perfect 9-0 record. The win boosted Marion to third place rating in the state among Class A schools.

A “Methodist Class” was organized in Marion Centre in April 1869. This Sunday, Nov. 22, the Methodist Church of Marion will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a special family dinner at noon and an afternoon program.

Burglars went on a spree in west Marion County Friday and Saturday nights. They committed nine break-ins that have been reported, two on successive nights at the same place. The burglaries occurred at Hillsboro, Durham, Tampa, Lehigh, and Goessel.

There was only one winner in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Harry Skibbe of Hillsboro received $10. Wm. E Tolle, Marion, missed $50; Mrs. Ray Gaunt, Marion, missed $15; Dale Vogel, Marion, missed $5; and Mrs. Anna Nuss, Tampa, missed $20.
