Freezing rain, sleet, snow and cold weather spelled trouble generally in Marion County over the weekend.
Marion has been selected as one of the Kansas cities to host a Class A Regional high school basketball tournament to be held in February.
Progress at the new Marion Elementary School has reached the point where plans can go forward on moving the Hill Grade classes into their new quarters. It is hoped the move can be made during the Christmas-New Year’s holiday.
The winners of the children’s prizes at the second Marion evening opening of this holiday season last Thursday night were as follows: Lavern Hadsall, boy’s bicycle; Dennis Knoblock and Diana Franklin each won a Kodak cameras; Warren Hart received a gun and holster set; and Anita Hoffman received a doll.
The Lota Malt and Steak House at Lincolnville announces a 3-day Grand Opening this weekend. The popular eating-place has recently enlarged its quarters and has been completely refurnished and re-decorated.
Birth announcements this week include a girl, Adah Elaine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McGranor, born Dec. 8; a boy, Randal Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Jirak, Dec. 10; a boy, son of Lt. and Mrs. John Reed Williams; Dec. 12; and Cindy Kay Carlson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Carlson, born Dec. 13.
