Twenty-two golfers participated in the golf tournament Sunday at Marion Country Club. Medalist was D.W. Montgomery. Winner of the 18-hole bogey flight was Harold Hauser. In the 9-hole bogey flight, first and second places went to T.C. Ensey and Gerald Higgins.

Judy Broadstreet, Barbara Musgrave, Tina Holmes, Donna Hanschu, and Judy Pankratz attended Drum Major and Twirler Camp held Monday and Tuesday on the Wichita University campus.

Everett Burkhead, one of Marion’s best-known residents, returned this week from his second summer session at the Kansas State School for the blind at Kansas City. Totally blind since birth, Everett is especially pleased at the progress he has made in handling the typewriter, on which he is becoming quite proficient.

The American Legion Junior Baseball Tournament, held here last week, was won by the Marion team. They now will play Manhattan, winner of the north sub-district tournament for district honors.

Former Marion County resident and highly respected member of the Kansas Highway Patrol, John Joseph Murphy, died July 24 at the age of 51.

Miss Gemma Jirak and L. Edward Davies were married July 23 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pilsen.
