A detailed study into the problems of aging residents is about to start in Marion County, the first step in a Ford Foundation-sponsored project. The local organization, created some time ago to carry out this path-breaking project, is named “Golden Years, Inc. of Marion County.”
Miss Patricia Berns of Peabody was crowned Queen of the Marion County Fair for 1960 Friday evening. Crowning the tall, dark-haired beauty was Jeanine Tiemeier of Lincolnville, last year’s Queen. The other two finalists were Margene Savage of Florence and Verda Epp of Hillsboro.
Douglas Marler celebrated his sixth birthday Thursday by having a group of friends to his home after school. Games were played and refreshments were served to Mike Jackson, Leonard Schafers, Gary Wiens, Bradley Turk, Brad Kimball, Steven Widler, Freddie Nelson, Greg May, Mark Kline, Gale Cooper, Tony Turner, Rickey Schwendiman, and Brent Colle.
Harold “Dutch” Hauser was the trophy winner and champion of the Marion County Club golfers in the 36-hole tournament over the Labor Day weekend. Bob Musgrave was second and Dr. Earl Wood took third place. Bob Hoover and Rosse Case tied for first in the first flight. Max Jackson was first in the 18-hole flight with Dr. T.C. Ensey second.
