The enrollment in Marion schools continues to climb, with a total of 650 now in class. The number in each grade level, kindergarten through high school, is as follows: kindergarten 41, first grade 54, second 55, third 44, fourth 51, fifth 43, sixth 47, seventh 56, eighth 59, freshmen 54, sophomores 50, juniors 46, and seniors 48.
A record-breaking crowd of 268 women gathered at the city building Sept. 13 for the annual Community Guild banquet. The evening’s entertainment included a can-can line featuring “the purtiest girls in the world,” Esther Beaston, Margaret Wolf, Helen Case, Bea Merrill, Ruth Rhodes, Lois Hassinger, and Norma Hannaford.
Bill Meyer is pictured as he receives the title of a brand new 1960 Cushman Highlander motor scooter from Al Heidebrecht and Dan Pankratz of Al and Dan’s Quality Food Market. The scooter was the second prize in a contest conducted by Pepsi Cola this summer. The winning ticket came from a carton of Pepsis purchased at Al and Dan’s.
Norman Alexander’s 12th birthday was celebrated Sept. 7 at a party Saturday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Alexander. Invited guests were Blair Post, Bob Good, Bob Hoch, George Jackson, Dennis Maggard, Rodney Oelschlager, David Goertz, Dennis Conyers, Dick Maggard, and Norman’s brothers, Bryan and Lance.
