The “Stone Arch Bridge” over the “Luta,” or “Muddy” creek in the very center of downtown Marion was one of the finest examples of this type of construction. The main center arch was thought to be one of the largest masonry arches in the country. Work was started on the bridge in the fall of 1883 and was completed shortly before July 4, 1884. Fred L. Lewis and E. Hoops were its contractors and builders.

Rev. and Mrs. Jim Cox entertained the elders of the Marion Christian Church and their wives at a dinner Saturday evening at the parsonage. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fruechting, Mr. and Mrs. Nodie Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Art Dieter, Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Stolfus, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill, Mr. and Mrs. David Wheeler.

Mrs. Paul Hanstine of Wichita and Mrs. Walter Siebert left Tuesday for a three-week’s vacation trip. They will go to New York City where they will join a tour, which will take them throughout the New England States.

Strassburg Baptist Church observed its annual Harvest Mission Festival Sunday. The offering for the day amounted to $1,333

Agnes Price will leave Oct. 1 for California to attend the 38th annual convention of the National Association of Bank Women held at the Huntington Sheraton Hotel in Pasadena.
