A second large 660 horsepower compressor unit was installed this week at the Round and Stewart natural gas plant, three miles west and five miles north of Marion. The new unit doubles the original capacity of the plant, bringing it to six million cubic feet per day. The plant gathers natural gas for compression and removing moisture, sour gasses and liquid before sending it into the large trunk lines.

The beautiful, big, old pine tree, long a landmark at the corner of Main and Cedar streets, gave way to progress this week and was removed to make way for the new highway location at that point. The new road will be a big improvement but we couldn’t let this fine tree pass out of the scene without a tipped hat and a word of recognition and appreciation.

Norma Nice was crowned FFA queen Saturday evening at the annual FFA Sweetheart Ball. Gary Hamm, Jerry Bessel, and Steve Krispense escorted her and her attendants, Karen Jost and Deanna Klenda.

The Arthur Schlehuber family has moved into their new home near the Marion County Lake.

Members of St. Mark Catholic Church celebrated the 10th anniversary of their founding as a parish last Friday evening with a family dinner and program in the Marion City Building.

An old-fashioned Turkey Shoot will be held Sunday afternoon on the Marion Gun Club grounds at the airport. Prizes will be turkeys, hams, and bacon.
