Gently falling snow, continuing intermittently until six to eight inches lay over everything, is bringing ideal moisture to winter wheat and the dormant soil.

Marion High School students surprised their good friend, Wes Just, custodian of the gymnasium, with a birthday cake during halftime Friday night of the Marion-Peabody game. Pictured with him are Marion cheerleaders Marianne Waltner, Julia Wooldridge, Tressie Miles, Deanna Klenda, and Donna Jost.

Kingfisher’s Inn, popular eating-place at Marion County Lake, will open for the season starting next Thursday. The Inn has been closed for the winter months.

A lineman from Leavenworth and a back from Marion have informed Kansas football coach Jack Mitchell that they will enroll at KU on athletic scholarships this coming fall. The two boys are Marion (Bud) Walker of Leavenworth and Ron Oelschlager from Marion. Walker plans to major in civil engineering and Oelschlager in pre-med.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Richmond announce the arrival of a son, Randall Ray, born Feb. 2 at St. Luke Hospital. He has a sister and brother to welcome him home.

Centre High School, the new high school north of Lincolnville, will be featured tonight over KTVH-TV to show what has been done by consolidation of several smaller schools into one.
