The Marion Old Settlers Centennial Committee, with Leslie Powell as chairman, met Thursday evening to discuss and throw plans for the celebration here in August into high gear. An advance representative for the John B. Rogers Production Co. will be here this week to start forming plans for the big 4-day celebration.

Mrs. Eunice Bevan, who with her husband Spencer Bevan, operate Cedar Rest, the Marion County nursing home, received an award this week as one of the five outstanding nursing home administrators in the state for the year 1960.

The first of proposed biographical sketches of this years’ Senior Class at Marion High School are published in this issue. Students featured include Keith Hett, Barry Olsen, Sharon Lee Blankley, Carol Sumner, and Julia Wooldridge.

Thirteen Brownie Scouts visited the Marion County Record Wednesday afternoon with their leaders, Mrs. Earl Wood and Mrs. Leonard Lentz. The following scouts were present: Vickie Boese, Sarah Heidel, Sandra Turner, Jeanette Giles, Cathy Coe, Leanna Benoit, Diana Franklin, Janel Klose, Becky Lentz, Patsy Wood, Shirley Helmer, Betty Carol Simmons, and Debbie Bell.

Army Pvt. Gerald D. Kline, Marion, and Pvt. Richard J. Hein, Florence, have completed eight weeks of advanced individual light weapons training at Fort Ord. Calif.
