Southwestern Bell Telephone Company this week announced that a complete new system of rural lines, to be built by the company at a cost of about $130,000, has been approved for the Marion exchange area.

The Centennial observance here was given strong impetus Tuesday when members of the Priscilla Club met at the home of Mrs. Ira Newcomer. “Centennial Belles” attending and shown on the front page include Clara Duncan, Norma Hannaford, Helen Case, Agnes Muse, Mabel McCullough, Mildred Newcomer, Margaret Wingerd, Elsie Reinke, Lucile Wight, Ruth Gound, Mary Alexander, and Audrey Carpenter.

A brand new filling station and store will open in Marion Friday when Bud’s Conoco Service holds a two-day grand opening celebration to present his newly remodeled facilities to the public.

John Rupp, who received his discharge from the services the first part of this month, is now attending the Ross Aviation School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Cub Scouts of Den 4 made a memorable trip to Herington Tuesday. For several, this was a first experience of riding on a train. Those making the trip were Edsel Schroeder, Raymon Mayginnes, Wayne and Randy Mott, Charles Pankratz, and Jerry Fender.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Melcher were very much surprised Sunday afternoon when a large group of relatives arrived unexpectedly to help them celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, which occurred March 14.
