Francis Marion, was the town’s entry in the 850-mile-long parade. Mayor and Mrs. Ira Newcomer and City Commissioners Earl Kreuter and Paul Keazer rode in a “Wells Fargo Express” stagecoach, an entry from Overland Park. Hillsboro’s entry was a genuine 100-year-old “ladder wagon,” with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Plenert and Mrs. Ed Janzen aboard.
