A major building project in Marion’s downtown business section will be underway this spring and summer. The Farmers and Drovers National Bank will build an entirely new building at their present location of Third and Main streets. The present bank building, built in 1887, is the only three-story building remaining of the few built here before the turn of the century.
Several homes are being constructed in the city. In the southeast portion, work is being done on three houses within the same block on South Roosevelt. Just being started is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Muse, nearing completion is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Slusser, and work is progressing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.K. Maybell.
Margene Savage, Florence, will leave Monday for Chicago where she will compete in the national cherry pie-baking contest.
Dr. Paul Tasch, Wichita University professor of geology, has identified a 10-foot 7-inch tusk and some bones, found while digging the new sewage disposal pool at Tampa, as the remains of a wooly mammoth who roamed Kansas plains 15,000 to 25,000 years ago.
