Mrs. Inez Ray, who for a number of years has most capably served as clerk of the Marion County Selective Service Board, tendered her resignation last week for reasons of health. Mrs. Earl Linn of Marion, who is presently employed as assistant city clerk, has been hired to fill the vacancy.

A light north breeze early this week brought to downtown Marion the unmistakable sweet odor of freshly cut alfalfa being processed. The newly equipped and re-activated alfalfa mill has been completely worked over, more automatic equipment added, and pelleting machinery installed.

This year’s May Fete Queen is pretty Marilyn Leppke. The queen was crowned by her consort, Steven May. As usual, the event completely charmed the capacity crowd that filled the Marion gymnasium.

Miss Faye Ann Bezdek is the bride of Jerry O. Makovec following a double ring ceremony May 7. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Albert F. Bezdek and the late Mr. Bezdek. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar J. Makovec are the bridegroom’s parents.

For the 14th year in row, Marion’s Wilbur Melcher is serving this week as umpire-in-chief at the regional and state high school baseball tournaments, held this year at El Dorado.
