Congressman Garner Shriver was the speaker Monday morning at County Government Day in Marion. Students from nine county high schools took part in the practical, first-hand experience in government.

Six girls from the Marion Chapter of Future Homemakers of America performed the Charleston at the FHA district fall meeting in Pratt. The girls were Diana Nickel, Donna Hanschu, Tina Holmes, Jean Morse, Deanna Klenda, and Mary Konarik.

Marion Old Settlers Centennial Corporation, financial organization for the big celebration here last August, is about to close up shop, pay off their stockholders, and dissolve.

J.L. Fruechting of Marion was named this week as one of the 10 1961 “leaders of the year” by the Kansas Farm Bureau in convention at Wichita.

The Junior Class of Marion High School will present “One Foot in Heaven” tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the Marion City Building. Included in the cast are Gary Alexander, John Hoover, Rose Loveless, Tom Berry, Mary Melton, Don Stenzel, Cheryl Caselman, Karen Higgins, Edith Jewett, Lowell Ensey, Ruth Lais, Sharon Nelson, Sharon Youk, Tim Colle, Jean Morse, Jeannine Skibbe, Keith Just, and Jon Schimpf.

Father Victor Bieberle, 36, priest at Marion’s St. Mark Catholic Church, left this week for active duty as a chaplain with the United States Army.
