Donna Newsom, Marion High School senior, was crowned “Queen of Courts for 1962” in between-game ceremonies Friday night at the annual homecoming game. She was crowned by Tim Williams representing the Marion squad. Donna’s attendants were Karen Higgins, a junior, escorted by Don Druse, and Donna Hanschu, a sophomore, escorted by Mike Schwemmer.
Five Marion County soil conservation cooperators were honored Thursday evening at the annual Meeting of the Marion County Soil Conservation District. Awards went to Lawrence and Lester Gilbert of Marion, Charles Unruh of Peabody, F.W. Strait of Florence, Ed Huguenin of Peabody, and John and William Voth of Walton.
Eileen Pavey, honor student from Marion High School, now at Emporia State Teachers College, was listed this week as being among the top ten students in the freshman class. She was, in fact, fourth high with a 3.87-point average.
Mary J. Klenda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Klenda of Marion, and Nancy L. Vinduska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Vinduska of Lincolnville, are among the 65 of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing who will receive the symbolic white cap of the nursing profession at ceremonies Sunday afternoon.
