The new Mennonite Brethren Church on South Coble Street will be used for services the first time this Sunday, April 7. Formal dedication will be held April 28 according to the pastor, the Rev. LaVern Loewens.

Hillsboro Chief of Police Lee Westhafer and Marion officer Charles Frans were critically injured early Friday morning in a one-car accident southwest of Hillsboro. The car in which they were riding was demolished.

Eight members of the advanced 6th grade reading class at Marion Elementary presented a play, “Dooley and the Deadly Diary,” to members of the Tabor College Language Arts class April 3. The cast included Mike Steinel, Beverly Hoch, Jan Herrick, Bryce Ollenberger, Mary Beth Kjellin, Greg Bowers, Douglas Westerhaus, and Paul Kirstein. Susan Vogel and Janice Jantz were authors of the play.

This week’s “Look Who’s Here” column announces the birth at St. Luke Hospital of three babies: Cerita Anne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Konecny of Marion, Marcia Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fox of Marion, and Bennett Mark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Franta of Wichita.

The Marion City Basketball team took second place in its own tournament last week. The team is composed of Leroy Dick, Ron Druse, Pete Keenan, Dave Robinson, Mike Schwemmer, Tim Williams, Dick Schwartz, Tom Shirley, Blaine Babb, Bob Knight, and Bob Ehrlich.
