MEMORIES: 50 years ago

A new store will open in Marion this coming week. Located in the DeForest Building, near the corner of First and Main, it will be operated by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johnson. They will deal in new and used furniture.

Final remodeling was completed this week at the Marion post office to make ready for air conditioning. According to Postmaster Paul Shahan, workers installed a new roof at the back of the post office this week and closed up the big skylight in the building. Both steps precede the air conditioning.

New extended evening hours will go into effect at the Elgin Restaurant starting July 15, according to Mr. and Mrs. Al Hunt, operators of the popular eating-place.

Player of the week awards this week go to Randy Mott of the Marion National Bank team in the Pee Wee league and Myron Frans of the Jackson Clothing Store team in the Midget League.

Dr. G.J. Goodsheller, who has practiced medicine in Marion for over 52 years, retired from active practice this week.

Brigadier General Milton Ehrlich is now commander of Army troops (National Guard) for the state of Colorado and is assistant adjutant general of the state. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Ehrlich of Marion.
