A number of Marion businesspersons and wives were guests of Southwestern Bell Saturday night at an informal dinner at Elgin Restaurant and a special preview tour of the new telephone building. Mayor Ira Newcomer was asked to place the first long distance call from Marion over the new dial system. He called his son, John Newcomer, in Denver.

Jim Keazer, Marion High School senior, who was critically injured in an automobile accident near Marion Aug. 14, came back to Marion Monday evening and will be recuperating at St. Luke Hospital.

David Hartman was guest of honor at a party Thursday afternoon honoring his eighth birthday. Guests present were Gary Friesen, Randall Mott, Andy Ferrell, Eddie Hett, Richard Britain, Jack Loomis, Gail Whiteman, Mike Colgin, Don Bredemeier, and Jeff Longhofer.

Four Marion High School physical education seniors and their sponsor, Mrs. Max Jackson, were invited to spend Saturday on the Washburn University campus to take part in the annual “Play Day.” The four were Shirley Bredemeier, Judy Lee, Connie Stage, and Joyce Frans.

Friday night’s win over the Hillsboro Trojans advances the Warriors from ninth to sixth place in the weekly ratings of schools this size.
