Charles M. Campbell, 34, of Kinsley has been hired by the board of education to be superintendent of the Marion school system during the coming year. He replaces Robert Musgrave, who resigned effective at the end of the current year.

The Owl Car Café has re-opened after redecorating and remodeling their banquet room. A new sign is being painted on the front of the restaurant and will feature a winking owl along with the name of the café.

The eighth grade “Braves” are owners of two first place trophies this season — league champions and tournament winners. Team members pictured are Ralph Broz, Charles Pankratz, Lester Harlan, Dennis Knoblock, Jay Woerz, Myron Frans, Greg Stetler, David Magee, Jerry Fender, Edsel Schroeder, Dannie Steinel, Raymon Mayginnes and Coach David Robinson.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer, Galen and Ginger were hosts to a dinner Sunday honoring the baptism that morning of Greta Lee and Gena Gay Helmer. Guests were the girls’ grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gutsch and Anna Helmer.

Mrs. Robert Jirak surprised her husband Saturday evening with a party honoring his birthday. Guests present included Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Herbel of Salina, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Herbel and Brad, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jirak and Jeff, and Kevin Jirak.

Naomi Stenzel of Marion is one of nine Southwestern College co-eds competing for the title of Miss Southwestern of 1964.
