Bright new signs are appearing this week on many roads in north Marion County — signs forming a realistic link with the romantic days of early Kansas. The signs say, “Original Santa Fe Trail Crossed Here.”

The “Look Who’s Here” column announces the arrival of Donna Louise, first child of Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Berg of Marion, born March 6 at St. Luke Hospital and that of Justin Kyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sly of Salina, who was born Feb. 26 at Asbury Hospital, Salina.

Students at Marion Elementary are busy preparing for this year’s annual operetta, Hans Christian Anderson’s “Rumpelstiltskin.” Characters for the musical have been chosen from the sixth grade. Fifth graders are the chorus.

Mrs. Bill Hatterman, Sterling Frame, Mrs. Maurine Howell, and Mrs. Ed Rittel, police radio dispatchers, attended a special training school at the Baker Hotel in Hutchinson Sunday and Monday. The instructions dealt with severe weather warnings.

The board of education, meeting in special session Saturday, hired Roy D. Keller, 32, of Chanute to be principal of Marion High School for the coming year.

Dr. J.E. Tibbetts, prominent Marion dentist, died at his home Friday, March 6, the victim of a heart attack. His death came as an unexpected shock to the entire community, family, and friends.
