Unexpected overnight patrons of the Elgin Hotel here tonight, Thursday, are members of the famed Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra under the leadership of Lee Castle. They are here in the midst of a winter blizzard. The sixteen band members, including singer Marilyn Mitchell and the bus driver were en route to Lincoln, Nebraska.

Six eighth grade girls from Marion Elementary School will serve as pages in the State Legislature in Topeka for a couple of days. Girls involved are Cathleen Costello, Nancy Olsen, Beverly Hoch, Linda Oldham, Pamela Weigart and Jan VanBuren.

School District No. 1 will be known as Marion Unified District No. 408 starting a year from this July.

Six Marion High School students have been chosen to perform with the annual Kansas Music Educators Association festival chorus and band in Wichita Feb. 12 and 13. Becky Herrick and Kathy Westerhaus will play in the band while Carmen Hayen, Connie Jost, Dennis Hett, and Ed Parrack will sing in the 200-voice choir.

Births announced this week in the “Look Who’s Here” column are those of John Patrick Duggan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Duggan of Tampa, on Feb. 6; Darin Thane Nienstedt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Nienstedt of Marion, on Feb. 7; and Tate Patrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCarty of Marion, also born Feb. 7.
