After lengthy negotiations and legal technicalities, the title to the athletic field at the east edge of Marion is now officially registered in the name of the city of Marion. The acquisition of this 19-acre tract from the Cottonwood Valley Saddle Horse Association by the city was approved by a special question at the city election on April 3, 1956.
Leslie Broadstreet this week announced that he is opening a new photographic studio in Wichita, and closing his Studio Moderne here in Marion. The effective date of the change will be October 1.
Marion County citizens are responding to the “second round” of low-cost polio inoculation clinics in about one-third the numbers of the first round. When completed, it is estimated that about 5,000 shots will be given. Over 3,400 were given in the first clinics.
The Rock Island Railway advertises, in this issue, their old depot building at Marion for sale. As reported earlier, the railroad is replacing the building with a new pre-fabricated, smaller, modern unit.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kreuter went to Topeka Saturday and were guests of the First National Bank for dinner at the Topeka Country Club and the Roy Rogers Show at the state fair.
