Governor Robert Bennett named two area men this week to the important Kansas Emergency Medical Service Council. They are Senator John Crofoot of Cedar Point and Jim Bridges, Marion County emergency medical services director, of Marion.
Bright-eyed and alert as ever, Nodie Baker is set to celebrate his 102nd birthday Tuesday. Members of Marion Christian Church are inviting his friends to an open house between 1 and 5 p.m. that day in the recreation room at St. Luke Hospital.
During halftime of the Warriors’ basketball game Friday, Marion High School will crown a new queen of courts for 1976. Queen candidates are Betsy Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Bowers; Joni Wiens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wiens; and Nancy Wood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wood.
Ruby and Delbert McElfresh and their family are doing mission work in Africa. Ruby’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Winkley of Marion. The family is at Mukinge mission at Kasempa, Zambia, where there is a high school for 400 girls and a leprosy and tuberculosis hospital with 175 beds.
Alice Gantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Gantz of Marion, is one of six candidates for homecoming queen at Neosho County Junior College at Chanute. A nursing student, she is active in campus affairs and is listed on the fall semester honor roll.
