The first heavy rainfall of the spring season, accompanied by considerable wind and weather bureau warnings, fell of Marion County and central Kansas on Monday. Rain, varying from two to three inches and more, replenished drying topsoil with moisture. In Marion, the rainfall over the weekend and through Tuesday totaled 2.32 inches.

After careful study by the Marion Board of Education, it is deemed feasible that a new upper grade elementary school will be planned for completion by the fall of 1960. Tentative plans will be for possibly 10 classrooms a multi-purpose room, and kitchen/cafeteria.

Births at St. Luke Hospital this past week included Gary Duane Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hett, on May 2; Bradley Jay Richter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Richter, May 1; Gary Blaine Turk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Turk, May 5; and Teresa Beth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Waner, also born May 2.

Anita Schlehuber celebrated her birthday Tuesday evening by inviting a group of young folks in for the evening. Those present were Elizabeth Youngman, Mary Melton, Diana Goertz, Cheryl Caselman, Sharon Nelson, Jean Morse, Don Stenzel, Lowell Ensey, Maurice Just, Johnny Hoover, and Ronnie Kelsey.

Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Higgins of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra Lea, to Gail L. Dody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dody, Marion. A late summer wedding is being planned.
