A step in progress toward a larger and more effective school system at Marion was noted this week with the announcement that the entire elementary District 56, at the east edge of the county, has become part of Marion, District No. 1. During the past several years, either all or part of the following districts have joined District No. 1: Sunflower, Bixler, Brown, Quarry, Clark, Wren, and 56. Dickerson school, this year, voted to send their students to Marion.

At the wind-up of the 1958 ball season for the Marion Midget League, the winner’s trophy went to the team sponsored by Gound Motor Company. Members of the team are Blair Post, Lowell Ensey, Dick Maggard, Bruce Powell, Max Jackson, Gary King, Richard Winter, Mike Carter, Larry Houdyshell, Darold Longhofer, Wayne Ewert, Chris Hauser, Wayne King and Richard Soyez. Jerry Schwemmer is the team’s coach.

Three busloads of Boy Scouts and their leaders took advantage of the cool picnic facilities in Central Park one hot day this week. They set up their kitchen and got the noon chow line going in short order. The 75 scouts and leaders were from Louisville, Kentucky, and were on their way to summer camp in New Mexico.
