The featured speaker at the afternoon program of Old Settlers’ Day this year will be Mrs. R.R. Melton (Phyliss Williamson. Many persons, who have heard Mrs. Melton speak on the subject of early Marion County history, agree that no better speaker could be found anywhere for this annual program in the city park. Judge Jay Hargett will be master of ceremonies and will be ably assisted by Roger Morse. They will call on members of the audience to say a few words, and will award prizes to outstanding old settlers present.
Marion High School will offer an adult education class in elementary typing open to any person over 16 years of age and not regularly enrolled in high school classes.
Marion welcomes the new Christian minister, Rev. A. James Cox, Mrs. Cox and daughter, Cheryl Denice. They came to Marion from Charleston, South Carolina, where he had been preaching. They were originally from Kansas, having been born and raised at Arkansas City.
The MYF of the Aulne church had a farewell party for Roger Richmond in the church basement the evening of Sept. 16. Present were Roger, Bonnie and Judy Richmond, Gary Hett, Clifford Hett, Bill Olsen, Bob Waltner, Marianne Waltner, Lloyd and Ellen Darrow and sons Bill and Jim, Jeanette, Dean and Jack Williams, and Joyce Seibel.
Names drawn in this week’s Cash Day drawings included: Bertha Mailen, Marion, who received $50. Angela Stika, Lincolnville, received $30; Herbert Regier, received $40; Mrs. Godfrey Jirak, Marion, missed $15; and Marvin Wunsch, Marion, received $5.
Mrs. Lionel Hobson received a table radio as a prize for the lucky number from KFH Radio, Wichita, last Thursday.
