Pfc. Max Remmers of Marion died early this morning, Thursday, in a Fort Lewis, Wash., hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an Army tank accident Monday afternoon.
Edward L. Janzen of Florence, an 8-year member of the Jayhawk 4-H Club at Florence and son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Janzen, recently was awarded a Santa Fe Railroad trip to the National 4-H Club Congress to be held Nov. 26 through Dec. 6, at Chicago.
A very interesting letter was received this week by Norma Hannaford from Mrs. Dale Miller who, with her husband and son Dick, are teaching in the Navy school on Midway Island this winter.
Shirley Ann Helmer celebrated her sixth birthday Nov. 12 by inviting friends to her house Wednesday afternoon. Guests were Carol Patton, Patsy Wood, Janel Klose, Vicki Boese, Steven Behrendt, Sandy Turner, Mark Rathert, Dean Ensey, Craig Smith, Brenda Foth, Kendall Helmer, Becky Lentz, and Susan Mills.
R.J. Bateman has completed his practice training in Forestry which he took this summer and fall in the Rockies of Colorado. He took his preliminary training in Forestry at Emporia State College.
New combination aluminum storm windows and screens installed on all windows of the county courthouse make a big improvement in the building. Installation was completed this week by the Ireland Awning Company of Marion.
