Marion barber Al Holder celebrates his 80th birthday today, Thursday, and a few weeks ago passed his 65th anniversary of business in Marion. In recognition of this unusual record, the Marion Chamber of Commerce has presented him with an honorary membership and a certificate calling attention to his many years of service to the people of this community.
Centre Rural High School is the new name that has been chosen for Joint Rural High School District No. 11, the consolidated district comprising the former high schools at Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Ramona, and Burdick.
Charles Heerey, who lives four miles south and six west of town, brought in a box of large paper shell pecans, which he had raised. The tree was planted 20-some years ago. This is the biggest, and best, crop he has had mature from the tree. Mr. Heerey thinks this is the only paper-shell pecan tree in Marion County.
“Smiley” Burnette, western star of the movies, radio and television will put on a special afternoon program next Wednesday in the Marion gymnasium. The program is under the sponsorship of the Marion city teachers.
Bruce Hett celebrated his 12th birthday Friday by asking some friends for supper. After supper, the boys went to the show at the Kaw and returned to the Hett home for a slumber party. Guests were Chris Hauser, Jim Keazer, and Maurice Williams.
