The highway project calling of elimination of the two sharp “jogs” in U.S.-56 through Marion appears this week to be well on its way toward accomplishment.

Mr. and Mrs. L.V. Reed announce the engagement of their daughter, DeLoris, to Bob Mehlinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mehlinger. No wedding date has been set.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Longhofer of Longview, Texas, whose wedding occurred early in November, will be honored at a reception Nov. 30 at the home of his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Koslowsky.

One of the largest farm sales to be held in this area for many years will be conducted next Tuesday, when Milton Stenzel offers his equipment at public auction. A complete line of late model farm machinery is being offered, as well as dairy cows, heifers, calves, milking equipment, tools, chickens, hogs, hay, feed and many other items.

A fire in the kitchen at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ward Tuesday afternoon did considerable damage according to Fire Chief Fred Knackstedt. The fire evidently started with the deep well unit at Mrs. Ward’s gas range. It burned the tile off the kitchen walls, shelving and the stove itself.

Six members of Cottonwood Valley teams received honorable mention on a mythical “South Central Kansas All-Star Football Teams.” Dick Carr, Peabody’s senior end was placed on the second string team. Other league members who received honorable mention included Mick Summervill of Marion and back, Jerry Kline of Marion.
