A major business building improvement, to the Marion National Bank building, is in progress this week. An addition is being added along North Third Street at the rear of the present building. There also will be an entire new vault, additional workrooms and other improvements.

A big “send off” is scheduled for the state champion Babe Ruth baseball team when it leaves Marion Friday morning for the regional tournament at Joplin.

John R. Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams, Marion, returned to Norfolk, Va., this week after visiting Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands. This completed a two-month training cruise aboard the destroyer USS Rowe.

Paul Shahan received word this week that his appointment as postmaster at Marion has been confirmed by the United Sates Senate. Shahan has been on the local post office staff for 41 years.

Wesley Summervill, well-known farmer of east of Marion, was named president of the Marion Board of Education Monday night at their regular summer organizational meeting.

The City of Marion received the 1957 special Child Safety Award and Public Education Award from the Kansas State Highway Commission last week. Mayor Ira Newcomer and Marshal Lyle Sanders accepted the awards.
