Marion’s new modern water plant went into operation on a limited basis today, Thursday. The public is asked to “bear with it” for a while for it will take several days for the plant to become regulated and the lines adjusted.

Boyce Baumgartner, a recent graduate of KSTC, Emporia, has been hired to work at the Marion National Bank, according to Matthew Classen, president.

Paul Shahan, Marion postmaster, announces this week his resignation, effective June 19. He has ben in postal service here for more than 46 years, serving under six postmasters before receiving his permanent appointment from President Dwight Eisenhower in July 1958.

Margaret Ann Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Weber, and A3/c Ora N. Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hett, were married at 4:30 p.m. May 29 in the Orville Hett home.

The four-district school unification plan, presented to Marion County voters Tuesday, failed to pass by an almost two to one margin. The unification board must try again, and present another plan by July 1 for approval and another public vote in September.
