A real wintery blast of zero temperatures hit the Great Plains area in general, and Marion County in particular Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The official prediction is for more of the same for several days.

James Smith was installed Tuesday night as Master of Centre Lodge, AF&AM, in ceremonies at the Masonic Temple. Ira Newcomer was the installing master and Rosse Case acted as marshall.

The vocal department, under the direction of Nadean Kruse, will present its annual Christmas Vespers Dec. 33 in the high school auditorium.

The Christmas shopping season in Marion will climax in the next few days when final special events are carried out.

Tonight the special attraction will be the giving away of 15 live turkeys. The big Kid’s Night drawing will be held Monday night with the live pony as the grand prize along with four other fine prizes.

John Christensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Christensen of Marion, will be honored at the Kansas State University Wildcat’s gridiron banquet Wednesday night. John has been named K-State’s “most inspirational” player for the 1964 season.
