Marion’s newest piece of city equipment is a powered street sweeper. With rotating brooms, bristles, and scoop, along with wetting down equipment, the machine is an effective aid in keeping the city cleaner and more dust-free.

George Kristek has announced this week that he has purchased the Havlik Grocery and locker plant in Tampa. He will take over operation March 1. The business will be known as George’s Market.

A new community basketball league is being formed and will include teams from Cedar Point, Cottonwood Falls, Elmdale, Florence, Marion, and Matfield Green.

Marion team members, who have been playing this season, include Tom Shirley, Boyce Baumgardner, Keith Conyers, Don Druse, Bob Boese, Larry Bowyer, Ron Kelsey, and Tim Williams.

James Meisner, Marion County engineer, was elected president of the County Division of the American Road Builders Association at the annual meeting being held this week in the Statler-Hilton, Washington, D.C.
