The first of four “Kid’s Drawings” held in connection with Marion’s annual Christmas opening was held last Friday evening. Donna Anderson and Jeffrey Brestel were winners of the big first prizes, fine new bicycles. Three other winners were Ruth Morse, transistor radio; Doug Vogel, space helmet; and Brenda Litke, a big fuzzy dog.

Marion High School junior Pat Costello is the winner of the “Rights and Privileges” essay contest sponsored by the six federated clubs of Marion. Linda Loney received an honorable mention.

Brownie Scout Troop 64 visited the Record office last Wednesday afternoon and saw firsthand how the paper is printed each week. The girls included Mariann Elling, Janelle Dreier, Denise Magathan, Valerie Brestel, Yvonne Schmidt, Terrie Finke, Connie Nelson, Ginger Lentz, Debra Ratzloff, Sherri Moore, Karla McCoy, and Norma Heidel.

Silvin Jirak of Marion missed $50 in this week’s Cash Days drawing. Winners, all from Marion, were FernEtta Hoover, who received $20; R.L. May, $10; Vernon Lee, Marion, $10; and Mrs. Martha Schaefer, Marion, $5.

Winter arrived Friday with temperatures dropping quite low and flurries of snow lasting only a short while.

Anita VanBuren, Carol Bowers, Carolyn Vinduska, Pam Vinduska, Beth Thole, Mary Schimpf, Linda Amick, and Suzanne Bailey spent the evening of Nov. 23 at a party given by Henrietta Klein at the Klein home.
