Long-delayed winter let Marion County residents know this week that it was back in full force. Sub-zero temperatures reached 8 to 10 degrees below in Marion and 12 to 14 below at Marion County Lake. This was followed by misty rain, ice, and a fine blowing snow that accumulated to several inches and drifted to several feet in places.

The new egg-gathering industry is demonstrated this week by Mr. and Mrs. Don Fruechting and their three boys at their farm in Aulne. They are now gathering over 6,700 fresh eggs daily from the hens in their new modern laying houses.

Shown are Fruechting and his sons, Terry, Kevin, and Michael, as they gather eggs from a total of about 8,900 hens with the help of a little garden tractor and wagon trailer.

Bill Finke, Marion, Southwestern Bell Telephone service representative, has been awarded their 1965 outstanding community dial office award for service, safety record, record sales, and production.

Dennis Highsmith, center of pep and spirit on the Warriors B-team, is featured in the “Basketball Spotlight” column this week.

The sixth grade at Marion Elementary will present the operetta, “Alice in Wonderland,” April 15. Marilee McGinness will play Alice. Supporting actors include Dianne Weber, Brent Colle, Shirley Hamm, Sandra Hoover, Henry Bingaman, Teresa Hett, Steve Warkentin, Mike Edmunds, Glen Bartel, Ricky Schwendiman, Randy Perkins, Mike Jackson, Billy Finke, Brad Kimball, Douglas Marler, and Dennis Helmer.
